Patrick Mavros is a renowned silversmith and jewelry designer whose brand has become synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship. Founded in 1980, the business originated when Patrick, inspired by his wife Catja, sculpted a pair of earrings for her. The jewellery caught the attention of her hairdresser, and soon other women were asking for similar pieces. This sparked the creation of the Patrick Mavros brand, which is now considered the definitive luxury brand from Africa, with a global following.
The brand is family-run, with Patrick’s four sons—Alexander, Forbes, Patrick Jr., and Benjamin—operating it. Growing up in the studio and workshop, the sons became deeply involved in the creative process, experimenting with design and material selection. Today, Patrick Mavros is celebrated for its intricate designs inspired by African wildlife, with animals like elephants, giraffes, and birds often featured in their pieces.
The Mavros family home and workshop are located in the wild hills outside Harare, Zimbabwe, where they also maintain a wildlife sanctuary. Their flagship store is in London, with additional locations in Nairobi, Kenya, and Mauritius. The Mavros studio and house are renowned for their architectural significance, and in 2016, the brand highlighted the plight of the pangolin, further solidifying its commitment to wildlife conservation.
